On Tamanawas, Jan Michael draws upon his Tribal heritage and life on the Reservation to combine haunting flute melodies with the indigenous rhythms of the Pacific Northwest to tell the story of the guardian spirits, Tamanawas. 

The expressive solo flutes, combined with Tribal drums, rattles, chants, and poetry in his Tribal language paint a portrait of our connection with Mother Earth.  This connection pulses through history and arises in the melodies of the Tamanawas - which means "guardian spirit" in Jan's Tribal language.
